Let’s get something straight right away. Digital wellness is NOT about catching up with the latest gadgets or technology. It is also definitely not about catching up with every bit of new posts in social media. Instead, it is more about finding a healthy balance between practicality and digital extravagance.

I feel the above point is very important as we progress into a more advanced digital era powered by artificial intelligence (AI). We must ask ourselves how much AI we should allow to enter into our lives. If we become overly dependent on AI, do we not risk ourselves to being ruled by technologies?

That brings us to the point of how your smart devices can offer much convenience and connectivity. But do you truly understand how to harness the benefits of ubiquitous technology? Digital wellness is thus about utilizing technology mindfully while being aware of pitfalls.

For example, we may utilize productivity apps to organize tasks but overreliance on apps has proven to dull our cognitive brain functions. The mental prowess in your mind is actually more powerful than algorithms in apps but you must stimulate and train your mind for it to reach its potential.

How To Get Started With Digital Wellness

Nevertheless, as technology is constantly evolving, it is imperative that we become more tech savvy in order not to be tech-dumb or what seems to be more prevalent with many people, tech-ignorant. Technological transformations can affect our routines in working and personal life, directly or subtly.

While technology can certainly enhance our lives in many ways, it is crucial to set tech-free times. Offline times should be used to engage in healthy physical activities or casual human interactions. Even an hour of jogging, calisthenics or cycling outdoors can boost your health in ways that no apps or computers can match.

We all can learn to prioritize digital wellness without needing to depend on an app to tell us to do so. Always remember that technology is just a tool and tools should not dictate what you do with your life. Our world hates dictators but it seems like we are not realizing that technologies can dictate our lives too. So beware of overdependence on any tool that can subtly enslave you to it without you realizing it.

Social media addiction is one of those subtle phenomenon that has gravely affected people, especially the youths and young adults. Therefore, will our own actions give rise to another unhealthy form of technological attachment if we allow AI-powered social companions and chatbots to proliferate without boundaries?

This is why no man or woman should idolize technology or anything that comes out from it. Always remember too to curate a positive online environment and limit exposure to negative content that damage mental health.

Therefore, learn to set boundaries between fascination and idolizing. By thoughtfully integrating technology in your daily life, you can enjoy its myriad of advantages without becoming overwhelmed.

BE MORE THAN JUST A TECH USER, BE A TECH MASTER.

Be a Ruthless Tech Master If Necessary

While it is true that computers are superior than mankind in some ways, it absolutely does not mean we should idolize technology. We all know computers are better than us in terms of mathematical calculations, looking up for information, and now, even generating all sorts of contents and ideas. But do we not readily throw out or replace our computers once it becomes outdated or useless?

So even when our personal computers and laptops evolve into humanoid robots, we should still always regard them as just machines. When the machines become redundant, we should just get them replaced with better ones. I’m emphasizing on this fact because it might just be a few short years for human-like robots to be made available to regular consumers.

When the robots really proliferate all over the world, I seriously hope we will enforce a global law for all robots to be installed with a mandatory kill switch. This is just in case the machines become “too smart” and go rogue on mankind.

Tech Mastery: Do Not Bow To Technology

This is why I advocate the use of any form of technology, even advanced human-like robots to be just inanimate servants. Even now we can utilize our ‘digital servants’ for productive activities that will foster creativity, innovation and positive well being.

For example, we can utilize artificial intelligence (AI) tools to explore our talents in digital art, copywriting, music production, or coding. If you now begin with a small project as a hobby, it could very well lead to a profitable venture later on.

Therefore, we must bear in mind that technology should never be our Master. This will be a critical point as AI becomes more prevalent in our lives. As we advance into a futuristic workforce, it is my hope that we see humans supervising machines and robots. It will be a very disturbing thing indeed if our future is dominated by robots bossing over mankind.

Develop High Awareness of What Is AI

Do not ever forget that before mankind wise up in the last two centuries or so, there were super tyrannical rulers who fooled throngs of men and women into bowing and worshiping them as “gods” and heavenly priests.

Perhaps those deceptive rulers and their crooked cronies use some kind of hidden advanced technology to deceive people into believing that they are heavenly superior beings. If those rulers were indeed gods, then surely they should still be alive now because gods are suppose to be immortal. But as a matter of fact, all we see now are ruins of temples where people used to worship these so-called “gods”.

Therefore, please do not ever be fooled into thinking that artificial intelligence or some other advanced technology is more superior than all of mankind. I also seriously hope no one will ever regard AI robots or any companion chatbots as a sentient being.

Last but not least, remember that it is called ARTIFICIAL intelligence for a reason and it is still mankind who possess the higher real intelligence. (well, some of us anyway and hopefully you are one of them.)
